June 5th, 2007 Republican Presidential Debate

Ok, some reason I think that all of you would love nothing more than a nice summary of the latest Republican president debate. You're welcome. For some reason I have really gotten into these debates. I think it might have something to do with the fact that I am half-a-moron and you could throw me on stage cold and I'd be able to hang with these guys. I used to think that being able to string together a coherent sentence was relatively simple, but I these guys prove that point wrong. This isn't going to be a running diary, per se, but I will just summarize some of the funny and/or prudent points that come up. I am going to be posting this periodically just so I don't lose it. So, if you're reading this in real-time make sure to check back early and often.

  • Ok, I don't like this Romney guy. In his first 10 seconds on air he actually used the terms "non sequitur" and "null set" in the same sentence. That first one was so hard I had to look it up. Not a great first step if you're trying to shed your image as a elitist Aristocrat-type.
  • I am pretty sure that Tommy Thompson suffers from the same voice immodulation syndrome as that the Will Farrell character Jacob Silj had on SNL.
  • 15 minutes in and the first question to my boy Ron Paul! He even got a little applause afterwards.
  • Has any person made a leap as big as from mayor to President? Someone do the research on this. I know that in the olden times there must of been a guy who went from sheep farmer to President or something.
  • You know what's good? Dried banana chips. I know that this has nothing to do with the debate, but I thought you should know this.
  • How do they come up with the podium arrangements here? My guess is that they put the people with the top polling numbers in the middle. I think that it should be like a horse race, and that its a blind draw before each one.
  • Ron Paul just had another good point, this time on immigration. I don't want to be a shill for this guy all the time, but you gotta admit that he makes sense. (And another round of applause afterwards.)
  • I don't know this for certain, but I think that Tommy Thompson might be cutting his own hair.
  • Oh god, Tommy Thompson said that he would utilize G.W. Bush and have him going around to kids teaching them about honesty and integrity. I am not making this up.
  • They are trying so hard to distance themselves from the current President that they keep invoking the image of Ronald Reagan. Good golly! Let's move on, shall we?
  • Here's a great link to a memo from Andy Grove, founder of Intel, talking about his ideas for the health care system in America.
  • The 9 scariest words in the English language are "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Finally, here's what this blog would look like if I had skill and intelligence.

I can't stand politics. I don't watch the debates because you just have a bunch of clowns slobbering all over themselves trying to remember what the campaign manager told them to say.

Show me the guy who is a strict constructionist of the constitution, and I will show you the guy who is getting my vote.

How about investing in this mutual fund?

http://www.vicefund.com/index.html

I agree with the investment strategy. I just can't get past the expense ratio. Can someone get me a vice index fund? That would kick ass.

Seriously, a 2.2% ER, and a .25% 12B-1 fee? Are you kidding me? Then again if you are running the vice fund, why not rape your shareholders?

Your boy Andy Grove is a fucking socialist. This disappoints me considering the less than savory tactics the company he founded has used.

I already pay way more than enough taxes. I really don't want to pay for people with medical problems.

I have a solution of my own. Healthy people (by that i mean people who eat healthy and exercise) get a free pass.

Unhealthy people (by that i mean people who eat McDonalds 3 times a day and never leave the couch) get nothing. By nothing, I mean they can rot in their festering fat bodies.

The health care crisis isn't about who is going to pay for someone to get some treatment, rather it is about people living a healthy lifestyle. You improve the healh of the people in this country and the problem with the cost of healthcare goes away. I am sick and fucking tired of treating the symptom and not the cause. But boo fucking hoo its so hard to get your ass off the couch and exercise and not choke down those fucking quarter pounders everyday.

I get it. Its not politically incorrect to tell our "big boned" brothers that they need to hop on the treadmill. I'm sick of everyone being a god damn victim. Fucking do something about the state of your health and stop whining that you cholesterol medicine is so fucking expensive. Think about it, if you lived a healthy life, would you need the cholesterol medicine???? Exactly.

The solution is so simple, but unfortunately, no one is willing to make the necessary changes.

DWB....check out Ron Paul's website. If you want the strict constructionist of the constitution, he's your man! Read the little paragraph at the bottom of the page, it talks about it there.

DWB, I am torn on your argument. I agree that the people who use the most services should pay for most of the costs. But doesn't that already happen because I don't pay for medications that I don't need? And I do think that its embarassing that we have to go to Canada and Mexico to get cheaper medicine that we can get here at home.

And Kevin gets of his knees, stands, wipes off his mouth and thanks Ron Paul for his donation.

Kevin, one thing that makes me incredibly angry is this one guy at work who has had double bypass surgery already, has been in for multiple MRI's and CAT scans, is on all kinds of prescription medication, yet he smokes 2 packs a day and eats nothing but garbage. He is up over 4 bills. My healthy lifestyle subsidizes his unhealthy lifestyle. The real kicker is he bitches about having to contribute $20 every paycheck for his benefits. It should all be free!

I get it, you can't just cut benefits off. I also think that health care should be available. However, I think that if you have self inflicted reasons (smoking, lack of exercise, etc) why you are unhealthy, then you should have to pay a higher premium. I really do think that if you provide a big incentive to people to make healthy choices, the overall health of the country will improve, and the cost of medical care will go down.

Medicine is cheaper in Canada because of the socialist medicine. If I was Canadian, I would be pissed off for 2 reasons. First, I'd be a Canadian. Second, they pay a whole shit ton more in taxes than Americans, and that is partly because of the Socialist medicine. Its not really cheaper, it is subsidized by the tax base. Its cheaper in Mexico because no one could afford it if it cost more. Its more expensive in the USA because people can afford it. "Greed is Good"

I'll check out your boy's website.

Wow......I feel like Kevin has lost his grip!

#1 - Let's start with his love of these debates. He likes them so much that if it wasn't for Kirk calling to tell him how bad Ron Paul is doing in the debate, he wouldn't even know it was on. Kevin says, "uh, debate....what's that?......oh politicians are standing on stage talking about issues.....yeah, never heard of such a thing!" Yeah, that's happened......so no, Kevin isn't into the debates.

2. Ron Paul.....I like what he has to say on some things....but can't get past his belief that the USA is responsible for 911. In the last GOP debate, he actually blamed the USA for 911. Pissed everyone off and ruined his chances. I like his stance on spending, taxes, etc but not the war in Iraq. Also, he remind me of an aging grandpa that's trying to win this retirement communities presidency. I do however feel like he is one of the few genuine people out there.

As it stands now, I'm up in he air. I don't like any of the front runners. McCain is a sissy and might actually be a closet liberal. Romney is alright but almost too polished. By the way his everyone should know non-sequitor if only from the comics! Rudy doesn't seem Presidential to me. I actually don't like him at all.

4. If I had to pick, I like Duncan Hunter, Huckabee (also genuine), & if Fred Thompson gets into the race....I'll probably go with him. If I had to do a fourth it would be Ron Paul. Damn it!

Health Care!

Ok, let's do this. Thanks to Kevin again for a B.S. serious blog. You suck "yam sacks" to quote a lyrical genious.

Government controlled health care is the dumbest idea in history! Nothing the government ever runs is smooth. They take things and really fuck them up. Also, there's a reason that most Canadians that need surgery come to the USA instead......cause health care in Canada (where its "free") sucks dick. Patients are on 6-month to a year waiting lists for minor shit cause when its free everyone has something wrong with them. Also, when the government controls it you don't get to pick your doctor, they pick for you.....that's what I want.....some hack that kills people regularly working on me. No thanks.

Additional thoughs, the USA does have free health care in every US city....the free health clinic. Health care is not a right, it's a priviledge & nobody should be forced to pay for other people's medical issues. That's heartless, but I don't give a shit.

Also, as a heads up Wes, England & their free health care system announced they are bankrupt now. They've decided that they will no longer offer health care to anyone that smokes......nice. So much for health care for everyone.

I told you it was stupid!

El Von: That kicks ass about England. Maybe they should just raise taxes instead. I love taxes.

In these communist health care countries, you have to wait months for treatment. Nice job. But the drugs are cheap.

The US needs to stop coddling people who refuse to help themselves. I know its harsh, but give me a break already. Stop making it easy for someone to go through life with the govt wiping their ass.

I have some breaking news, not everyone is equal. Its called life. The sense of entitlement is sickening. I work with people who are in a union and it is disgusting. They really think they should be entitled to a raise that outpaces inflation every year, free health care, and a defined benefit pension that also outpaces inflation every year. Its not enough that they are guaranteed a raise every year, it needs to be bigger.

I don't know about you, but my raise (if I get one) is based on performance as it should be. Not because I managed to consume a lot of oxygen at the office.

This country is a lot closer to going socialist than we like to think. Fucking democrats.

First off, Wes, do you know any Brits? I do, and they pay so much fucking taxes that their engineers make less after taxes than a first year teacher in the States. They seem generally miserable about having to pay such high taxes to support all the fucking freeloaders. Second, Kirk if you vote for Fred Thompson I will personally hunt you down and kill you and your entire family. This guys is so fucking far off the reservation it astounds me. I know you live in Tennessee and he is from there, but he would look for presidential advice from the Bible more so than any other president in history. The fucker doesn't believe in Evolution and thinks abortion should be made illegal. I'm not for the abuse of abortion, but imagine what society would be like with all these extra bastards running around sucking of the government tit not to mention all the botched illegal abortions that would occur. You are also taking away a womans right to decide what she wants to do with here own body. I hate saying it, but the Republican party has slid so far to the right that I can't really identify with it anymore. Having said that, I really don't think there is any Democrat that is worth a fuck in this election. We are yet again given the choice between to piles of shit.

Here you go Kevin. Maybe this will make you feel better. A nice little bit about your boy Ron "Jeremy" Paul.

Chad, I'll grant you that the abortion issue is huge.....but let's not get involved with the government not regulating what women can do with their bodies. Last time I checked prostitution was still illegal......where are the democrats on that little piece of legislation.

Anyway, I'm with you on abortion, but come on......Fred Thompson would be ok, he's been an admiral, a district attorney for NYC, NASCAR official.....what's not to like about the guy......he's been in hollywood, surely he's somewhat liberal.

Also, Ron Paul is polling at 1% yet consistantly is killing fools in online votes...looks like his campaign manager has done an Al Gore figured out the internet!

The Chad stole some of my thunder. I was ready to link to that article about Ron "the phenom" Paul. Just remember that you heard it hear first.

Chad,

That was sarcasm with raising taxes. Thats exactly what will happen here if we go to social health care. There is no accountability in the govt, so when they blow their cash, they jack us for more. Its a genius system, I only wish I could figure out how to do it on a personal level.
