Ok, a couple of quick housekeeping items before we get to the main event.
First, something that I meant to include in last week's posting, but my self-induced carpal tunnel made it impossible. You know what phrase I absolutely can not stand? It's "they were in the wrong place at the wrong time." I heard that a lot over the past week with regards to the Virginia Tech incident. However, every time I hear it, I fail to see how the innocent victim was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Um, it seems like the students and faculty in that building were in exactly the right place at the right time. It was whack-job with the guns who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Agreed? I thought so.
Next, for those of you who didn't catch the evening news, it appears that former Russian President Boris Yeltsin passed away today at the age of 76. And, I know what you're asking. Yes, someone did have him. CWG was highly skilled in placing Mr. Yeltsin in his number one position. So, that counts as 240 points. I believe that he is still behind RS though. Also, I have a goal this weekend of trying to get some sort of permanent Soul Bowl website up. I can't promise anything, but at least I am going to try.
Ok, now for the meat and potatoes. Had the chance to make it up to State College this past weekend for the annual Penn State Blue White game. For those of you who didn't have a chance to make it up, let him give you the rundown:
The whole town was covered in the Virginia Tech colors of Maroon and Orange. The college had tons of PSU shirts printed up in the VT colors. The student section that normal forms the big "S" during games formed a giant "VT" this weekend. Pretty cool. Unfortunately, I only saw this on ESPN for about 10 seconds. I thought that it was a great gesture, and I would have liked to have seen it get more publicity.
As for the game, I can only give you the perspective of a man who sat in an endzone for only the first two quarters. What can I say? It was hot. And I was getting sunburned. So, I am going to give you my expert breakdown like I attended the whole game, and I know what I am talking about football-wise.
First, the offense this year is going to be phenomenal. And by phenomenal, I mean that we can only complete short passes into the flat, and we will run the ball up the middle for 1 yard a carry. I think I just got a headache trying to figure out what I want engraved on my 2007 PSU National Championship ring.
From what I saw, Morelli looked very rusty. However, as long as we have Shaquille O'Neal and a couple of other 7-footers at wide receiver we should be able to deal with all the passes he threw high. From what I saw, the best quarterback on the field was Paul Cianciolo. However, I talked to the Chad tonight, and he let me know that Morelli wasn't playing with the 1st team offensive line. I guess that would make a big difference. (As a side note, I think that there was a 50/50 chance that I was sitting directly behind Morelli's parents. For record, my comments were tame and only that he looked out of sync. The other people in our section were much more harsh than us. When they got up at halftime we noticed that the "mom" had a PSU shirt with an embroidered 14 on it. It looked like the kind of thing that would be custom made and distributed to each player's parent. So, when they complain this week that the fans haven't given Ant-nee a chance, you'll all know who to blame.)
The only receiver who caught anything while I was there was Jordan Norwood. After looking over the game stats though, it looks like Chris Bell had a very good game as well. See, Chris, good things can happen when you're not arguing over chicken cosmos!
I can't really comment on the defense because I wasn't paying attention that closely. If anyone else was there, feel free to comment.
Thats all for now. Take care and I will talk to you later.

Well, I wasn't there, but I can act like I was.
I heard Paul C. looked the sharpest, but I don't think it means anything. Morelli looked like the Morelli of the regular season, throwing into double and triple coverage. Lets just hope it was a bad day.
Holy crap, we have tall receivers with good hands? Hmmm, who screwed that up? I'm actually excited about the mix of receivers on the team this year. Sounds like Williams may have rediscovered his speed. We can only hope.
The linebackers kicked ass, didn't even bother to take names.
Austin Scott looked like he belonged in dance class, not on the football field. Royster will be a good back. Next year. I have a feeling it will be a BS runningback by committee this year.
First few plays were 5 yard outs. I'm glad we are opening up the playbook.
O-line is ok at pass blocking, can't run block.
DB's: Wallace is going to take some time to get used to playing corner. Scirotto was on the sidelines with a "busted knuckle from a fight a few weeks ago" I mean a "pinched nerve."
D line: There are some big guys on the line and LJ senior will have them rocking and rolling by Notre Dame.
Overall, I think this years team will be a little bit better overall than last year with slightly more offensive production, and slightly less defensive production, at least until about mid season.
Lets talk about race and race perceptions.
This evening, I had a discussion with the woman about her boss and his inability to get to work on time. Her boss happens to be black, so I explained the concept of CPT. The woman was not pleased at this obvious racist remark. So I asked the question: If this guy is a professional, why can he not make it to work on time? He is obviously not breaking any stereotypes. The answer: "UHHHHHHHHH."
Look, if you are a professional, act professional. This guy makes way more money than anyone reading this blog. If you had a chronic tardiness habit, how long would you be employed? Exactly.
I guess my point is if you don't want to be a stereotype, then don't act that way
Well, Wes I hope that the woman you were talking to wasn't someone you work with. If she was, do you have your resume out with other companies. I also just watched the Eagles throw away their first pick on an overachieving QB from Houston. What the frig.
No Chad, not a coworker.
The greatest pick of the draft was Miami taking Ted Ginn Jr. The look on Brady Quinn's face was priceless. I just wish he would have fallen to the second round.
Not sure how I feel about Poz going to the Bills. Could have been worse though, luckily he didn't go to the Patriots.
I think Alford will be a beast for the Giants.
Now for the eagles...I had a feeling they would take Tony Hunt. I'm not sure how he fits in though. Hopefully he makes the roster. And what he hell was up with that QB pick?
Now for the alleged brawl. I don't think any of the serious charges will stick for any of the players, however, Judicial Affairs apparently has 20 players they are interested in. This is not good since I think Judicial Affairs coined the term "double secret probation." Perhaps our fearless leader could provide some insight as to what happens behind closed doors.
Shhh! "Double secret probation" is a term that can not be uttered outside the walls of power.
