Blue / White Weekend

Ok, a couple of quick housekeeping items before we get to the main event.

First, something that I meant to include in last week's posting, but my self-induced carpal tunnel made it impossible. You know what phrase I absolutely can not stand? It's "they were in the wrong place at the wrong time." I heard that a lot over the past week with regards to the Virginia Tech incident. However, every time I hear it, I fail to see how the innocent victim was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Um, it seems like the students and faculty in that building were in exactly the right place at the right time. It was whack-job with the guns who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Agreed? I thought so.

Next, for those of you who didn't catch the evening news, it appears that former Russian President Boris Yeltsin passed away today at the age of 76. And, I know what you're asking. Yes, someone did have him. CWG was highly skilled in placing Mr. Yeltsin in his number one position. So, that counts as 240 points. I believe that he is still behind RS though. Also, I have a goal this weekend of trying to get some sort of permanent Soul Bowl website up. I can't promise anything, but at least I am going to try.

Ok, now for the meat and potatos. Had the chance to make it up to State College this past weekend for the annual Penn State Blue White game. For those of you who didn't have a chance to make it up, let him give you the rundown:

The whole town was covered in the Virginia Tech colors of Maroon and Orange. The college had tons of PSU shirts printed up in the VT colors. The student section that normal forms the big "S" during games formed a giant "VT" this weekend. Pretty cool. Unfortunately, I only saw this on ESPN for about 10 seconds. I thought that it was a great gesture, and I would have liked to have seen it get more publicity.

As for the game, I can only give you the perspective of a man who sat in an endzone for only the first two quarters. What can I say? It was hot. And I was getting sunburned. So, I am going to give you my expert breakdown like I attended the whole game, and I know what I am talking about football-wise.

First, the offense this year is going to be phenomenal. And by phenomenal, I mean that we can only complete short passes into the flat, and we will run the ball up the middle for 1 yard a carry. I think I just got a headache trying to figure out what I want engraved on my 2007 PSU National Championship ring.

From what I saw, Morelli looked very rusty. However, as long as we have Shaquille O'Neal and a couple of other 7-footers at wide receiver we should be able to deal with all the passes he threw high. From what I saw, the best quarterback on the field was Paul Cianciolo. However, I talked to the Chad tonight, and he let me know that Morelli wasn't playing with the 1st team offensive line. I guess that would make a big difference. (As a side note, I think that there was a 50/50 chance that I was sitting directly behind Morelli's parents. For record, my comments were tame and only that he looked out of sync. The other people in our section were much more harsh than us. When they got up at halftime we noticed that the "mom" had a PSU shirt with an embroidered 14 on it. It looked like the kind of thing that would be custom made and distributed to each player's parent. Just something I thought I would pass along)

The only receiver who caught anything while I was there was Jordan Norwood. After looking over the game stats though, it looks like Chris Bell had a very good game as well. See, Chris, good things can happen when you're not arguing over chicken cosmos!
