Major Letdown......

Well, another week, another Nittany Lion loss. I am not QUITE ready to put everybody under the bus yet, but here are my thoughts.

First, for those of you who didn't hear it during the game, ESPN.com was reporting JoePa had a case of the 'Hershey squirts' and then the AP wire lated corrected that to 'green apple splatters.'

Next, I am not sure if anyone caught this (I know I didn't), but tonight on PTI they showed a replay of the Michael Jenkins Int that he returned for a touchdown. He actually spiked the ball on about the 1/2 yard line. Nobody upstairs in the PSU booth caught this. Who knows what would have happened then. Maybe we hold them to a field goal.

I am not ready to call an end to the Anthony Morelli era. I still think that he can play, but he really, really needs to work on looking off receivers at the line of scrimmage. His ass needs to stay in State College over the summer and work on drills where one receiver suddenly becomes "hot" instead of knowing who he'll throw it to ahead of time. And, this is just a theory...I know that there is no such thing as the mafia (wink) and that a bookie would never try to fix a football game, but try this on for size. The spread for last week's game was 16. Hypothetically speaking, what if said QB threw a 2nd interception that was returned for a touchdown? It moved the score from 21-6 (which didn't cover the spread) to 28-6 (which did). And what harm would it have caused? They were already losing, they just happened to lose by a bigger amount. I'm not saying anything is fishy, I'm just saying its something that crosses your mind.

I loved DWB's idea for the "ass-out." Although I will say that it cracks me up how the other schools around the country are trying to compete with the world-famous "white out." Also, why didn't OSU just call it the "Red Sea"? It seemed like a much better title than what ever they called it. Also, Michigan declared a "maize out" for the Notre Dame game this year. I know that Michigan students aren't overly bright, but that doesn't even make any sense. At least a "white out" is a real thing.

Till next time

All I am saying is this craptacular performance would not cut it at any other big time program. So why do PSU fans put up with it?

AM has a lot of talent. He is also an idiot. You can't teach talent, but you can make an idiot look competent. The key is having a competent position coach. Unfortunately JayPa is the position coach. How did that douche get a job? Maybe make McQueary the QB coach. At least he understands the concept of the quarterback position. JayPa is still wondering why he didn't get his change after all these years.

Calm down everyone, PSU lost to the best team in the country and until the last couple minutes had a real chance to win it. Don't go trading in your blue & white just yet!

AM didn't help on Saturday, but he didn't hurt us until the last two passes. If Troy Smith didn't hit that bomb for a touchdown, his numbers would have been worse than Morelli. It was just two good defenses beating the crap out of the offenses.

I think that the PSU D is awesome! The running game & Tony Hunt are awesome.........we just need some work on passing. The play that really killed us was the Rich Orhnberger false start when we were going for it on 4th and 1. If we got that touchdown, we would have had the mommentum and probably won the game. Also, it wouldn't hurt if Kevin Kelly could make a field goal.

Later!

I have two major issues with the performance over the first four games. First, we have all this athletic ability and we are not using it. We have not made our opponents make a choice. Second, we have let our opponents dictate what we are going to do. These two are somewhat related because they know we have all this speed outside and we have a quarterback with a big arm. It seems that by taking away the deep pass, like Notre Dame and Ohio State did, we are forced to run. That should not be the case. Running is great, but not all the time or when you fall behind. The opponent is giving us all this room underneath the deep coverage as well as over the middle, but we shy away from it. I think that once we start to utilize this open field, our opponents will be forced to decide if they want to adjust. If they do, we burn them long. If they don't, we take 5-10 yards at a time and keep their defense on the field all day with 20 play drives. The coaching staff seems to be blinded by their egos. This is not the same team we had last year. We can't run QB draws and defenses don't have to worry about the QB scrambling if he can't find anyone open. They can rush four and cover 7 without worrying about getting burned. I would like to see some plays for Williams at the line of scrimmage, bubble screens or something, that allow the blockers to get out front and let him use his speed and play making ability. I watch the Redskins run plays with S. Moss like that and I ask myself why don't we do that. A.M. has the arm to throw that quick pass, why? The last thing that gets me is that we have a good defense and our coaches play soft. Every team that has played Notre Dame has put pressure on Brady Quinn, except for us. We let him sit back and pick us apart. We made an average QB look like the best in the world. Until we get a fresh batch of coaches, meaning JoePa goes, we will continue to underacheive.
